Community Champion at Sussex Nightstop

Sussex Nightstop is a homeless charity serving the Brighton & Hove area since 2009. One of over 30 Nightstop services across the UK, we’re accredited by youth charity Depaul UK.

Our vision is a society where everyone has access to a secure and sustainable home and the opportunity to sleep safe every night.

The part we play in achieving this is to offer young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, a spare room in the homes of our wonderful volunteers, who we recruit, train and support.

We provide safe, welcoming places to stay through our volunteer host network - people with a spare room to offer and a desire to help. This prevents rough sleeping and the dangers associated with it.

“Nightstop made me feel at home while homeless. It’s a very important service that has a positive impact on those that use it.”

What does the opportunity involve doing?

Seeking to appoint an experienced Treasurer and a Trustee Safeguarding Lead, we are also interested to hear from individuals with an interest, knowledge and concern for the homelessness issues facing young people in our local area of Brighton & Hove.

Help us reach our potential
We see Trustee recruitment as a real opportunity to expand the thinking, skills and life experience behind our service.

One of over 30 Nightstop operations across the country, we are quality accredited by national youth homelessness Charity DePaul UK and we place high value on delivering a safe, high-quality and life-changing experience for both our young guests and our volunteers, without whom Sussex Nightstop would not exist.

As a new Trustee Board member you will help us drive forward our strategic plan of re-growth and re-build following the pandemic whilst also ensuring that we remain diligent as to our responsibilities towards safeguarding and financial sustainability.

We aim to be recognised and valued as an inclusive organisation

In the last year, 60% of our guests who stayed with Sussex Nightstop were young people of colour. A Board that reflects the diversity of young people using our service has the greatest potential of meeting those needs and we warmly welcome applicants who can help us achieve that potential. You do not need to have had previous Trustee experience to join us. We will support you and provide training.

What induction, training and support is offered?

If selected you would be provided with a comprehensive induction, buddied by an existing trustee and join our fabulous board with backgrounds ranging across financial management, social research, community development, youth engagement, corporate business and accommodation services – all of whom pursue the objectives of Sussex Nightstop with passion, commitment, belief and a good humour that makes for a rewarding Trustee experience.
