Same Sky is the largest community arts charity in the South East. Our portfolio includes projects large and small and everything from street parades to water-based theatre, carnivals to choreography; sculpture trails to fire and light spectaculars.
This year will mark our 40th Brighton Festival Children’s Parade. The annual Children’s Parade is a joyous, loud, disruptive, and memorable procession that takes place on the first Saturday of May to officially launch Brighton Festival.
Same Sky’s team of dedicated artists work with teachers and group leaders to develop their parade displays. In celebration of the National Year of Reading 2026, 55 different schools and over 4000 participants will join this year’s parade, bringing children’s books to life with their show-stopping designs and self-made costumes.
What does the opportunity involve doing?
*** The Children's Parade takes place on the morning of Saturday 2nd May 2026***
We need a dedicated group of volunteers to help steward our road closures and ensure the parade runs smoothly. Your roles will include chatting with drivers, signposting parade walkers, and directing audiences around the parade.

Safety First: Your safety is important to us. Before you hit the streets, we'll conduct a quick safety induction to ensure you're well-prepared.
What skills or qualities are needed?
No experience needed! We provide a safety and information briefing, along with all the equipment you need.
Big smiles and enthusiasm are also important for keeping the parade energy alive!
