St Mungo’s is here to end homelessness and rebuild lives. We now have more potential than ever to change more lives and influence housing and homelessness policy and services for good. We have ambitious and innovative plans and are in a strong position to achieve the goals we and our clients have set for ourselves.
As Chair you will be joining a dedicated and experienced Board, helping to set vision and strategy and ensuring that we are governed to the highest possible standards. You will work with Trustee colleagues and the Chief Executive to ensure that we are positioned to deliver our strategic priorities. Our relationships with regulators, government and others across our sector are vitally important and, as Chair, you will act as an ambassador for St Mungo’s, bringing your own network of contacts to support us.

What we’re looking for
We are looking for individuals with a proven, senior profile gained in a large and complex service focused organisation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate substantial strategic leadership in the private, public or not for profit sector. While expertise in homelessness is not a pre-requisite, an instinctive understanding of the challenges and opportunities we need to address is critical.
Outstanding relationship management and influencing skills are a must; you will have the credibility, skills and insight to lead an already strong Board and a passionate staff team. Whatever your background, you will share our desire to make a lasting difference to the lives of homeless people now and in the future and will be as excited as we are about our potential to turn bold ambitions into reality.

What skills or qualities are needed?
This role requires frequent contact with the Chief Executive and others, attending Board and committee meetings and representing St Mungo’s externally on a regular basis. We estimate the time commitment to be equivalent to three days per month.
The initial appointment is for three years which can be renewed. The Board meets six times a year, there are also several committees which meet quarterly. Meetings take place at our office in London but are currently being held remotely.

At St Mungo’s our vision is that everyone has a place to call home and can fulfil their hopes and ambitions. We currently work across London and the south of England but influence and campaign nationally to help people affected by homelessness rebuild their lives. With an annual turnover of around £100m, we provide support for nearly 30,000 people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless each year.
