Student Adviser at Brighton Students’ Union

We are currently looking to recruit two people to join our Student Support team who will be responsible for providing confidential, impartial support and advice to our students. The work will mainly be in relation to academic issues but there will also be a wellbeing element to the role which will help our students successfully complete their studies and make the most of their time at the University.

Brighton Students' Union is an independent, vibrant charity which is run by students for students. Our aim is to ‘Make Student Life Better’ for all students studying at the University of Brighton and our Partner Colleges, which we do through the provision of excellent services, facilities, support, representation and events.
Applicants will need to have experience of working in a supportive environment providing advice to a wide range of people on a variety of issues. They will also need to be able to interpret, explain and apply complex regulations and legislation to any situation that arises. Whilst working in an HE environment would be beneficial, a knowledge and understanding of the current issues facing students in higher education is more important.
The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships. Knowledge of data protection and the importance of accurate case notes is also vital to succeed in these roles.
The roles will initially be working from home due to the current pandemic, but in the future will be based primarily at our Moulsecoomb campus.
Brighton SU is committed to providing equity and inclusion in the workplace and recruiting staff who are representative of the University’s demographic make-up. We welcome applications from those who have life experience of working in or with minority communities.
If you have the experience and knowledge needed to be successful in this role and are passionate about helping our students have the best experience they can whilst studying at the University of Brighton, this could be just the job for you.
