Community Digital Champion at Digital Brighton & Hove, AbilityNet

Digital Brighton & Hove is pleased to be working with AbilityNet to recruit a Community Digital Champion on the project. The role is to empower local residents who face digital exclusion. You’ll achieve this by providing general advice and personalised digital skills support. Your focus will be on helping individuals develop the necessary confidence and competence in digital tools in communities across in the city. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, 19 June 2024 by 5pm.

Digital Brighton & Hove is a collaboration initiative that unites more than 350 organisations dedicated to addressing digital exclusion within the city. Since its establishment in 2017, the project has been actively recruiting, training and supporting digital champions who play a crucial role in delivering essential digital skills support across the city.

As a Community Digital Champion (CDC), your role is to empower local residents who face digital exclusion. You’ll achieve this by providing general advice and personalised digital skills support. Your focus will be on helping individuals develop the necessary confidence and competence in digital tools. While you’ll primarily work from home, regular video calls will keep you connected with clients and colleagues, and you'll travel within Brighton and Hove for face-to-face engagement with clients.

Your commitment to bridging the digital divide and fostering digital literacy will make a significant impact, providing help to many individuals who are in need.

Travel
The role will involve significant travel in and around Brighton and Hove, and although the role is primarily homebased there is the option of working at the Community Base Offices in Brighton.

Working hours and pattern
The role is 15–22.5 hours per week, with flexible working Monday to Friday.

Benefits
You will be entitled to 25 days annual leave plus public holidays, access to a health plan and 5% employer pension contributions.

Skill set required
To excel in this role, you’ll require a solid understanding of digital skills. However, your primary focus should be a genuine passion for assisting others. Excellent interpersonal abilities are essential, as you’ll collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Moreover, your enthusiasm for digital technology and its societal impact will be crucial.

Many learners will be vulnerable individuals who might be unfamiliar with devices or internet connectivity. Therefore, patience, empathy, and outstanding communication skills are vital for success in this role.
